Admissions Policy

The Schools Planning and Admissions Department at Essex County Council allocate all intake of children wishing to join Writtle Junior School. In the first instance you will need to contact 0845 603 2200 to request a common application form.

As you will be aware, parents of current Year 2 children at Writtle Infant school/ or another school will need to make a formal application to the council for a Writtle Junior School, Year 3 place for September 2024.

Parents can apply via the website www.essex.gov.uk/admissions and 99% of parents applied online last year. 

The junior admission round opens on 6th November 2023, for parents of children to apply for a junior school (Year 3) place for September 2023.
The statutory national closing date for applications is 15 January 2024.

There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admission area.  In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:

  1. Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children;
  2. Children with a sibling attending the school or Writtle Infant School;
  3. Children living in the priority admission area:
  4. Remaining applications.

In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above (other than Looked After Children).
